Surface ozone characterization at Larsemann Hills and Maitri, Antarctica

  • Study on surface ozone measured at Larsemann Hills and Maitri (Antarctica) during 28th ISEA are presented.
  • Daily average ozone concentration varied from ~13 to ~20 ppb at Larsemann Hills and from ~16 to ~21 ppb at Maitri.
  • Photochemistry and transportation contribute partially to the ozone concentration at both stations.
  • Activated halogens as well as photochemistry provide sink mechanism occasionally to ozone at Maitri.
  • In case of blizzard occurrence, removal of ozone becomes more effective through chemical scavenging and deposition.
